Lunt Challenges Midfielders To Hit Double Figures

8 June 2018

Lunt believes Crewe can score goals from all over the pitch...

The club’s assistant manager believes that midfielders such as James Jones, Callum Ainley and Charlie Kirk should be aiming for double figures when it comes to goals next season. With Jones free from injury, Lunt is hoping that the former Scotland Under-21 International can repeat his feat of scoring 11 goals during the 2016-17 season.

Academy graduates Charlie Kirk and Callum Ainley both scored five goals apiece last season and Lunt is challenging them to possibly double that.

With the arrival of Shaun Miller signing a permanent deal this summer to bolster our attacking options with the likes of Chris Porter and Jordan Bowery, Lunt feels that the number of goals we score will be key to our success.

With the likes of the Ryan Wintle, Harry Pickering and Perry Ng also capable of chipping with a number of goals, the assistant manager believes we can score goals from various sources.

Kenny told the club’s official website: “The players should be looking to improve on last year. They should be looking to contribute more goals and more assists. That is how they get noticed by other clubs.

“I think we have midfield players here who should be aiming for double figures when it comes to goals. If they can do that and the strikers score the goals we think they should, then that would give us a great chance.

Lunt added: “If they can get 8-10 goals and the others chip in with a few more then we will be a team capable of scoring from all over the pitch.”
