Kenny: "Happy With Team But We Need To Create Competition At Full-Back"

6 June 2018

Crewe Alexandra’s assistant manager, Kenny Lunt, says that he would be happy to kick off the new season with the squad we have at the moment and stresses that it will be difficult to find better full-backs than Perry Ng and Harry Pickering.

Lunt says that the club are looking to bring in two new full-backs to offer cover and competition for places in defence but that it would take some discovering to find better than we potentially have.

Lunt told crewealex.net: “If the season started tomorrow then I would be happy with the team we would be able to put out. We would be able to put out the same team that ended the season strongly but everyone knows we are looking for one or two more.

“As I’ve said, we are in no major rush to do that and it will be difficult to find full-backs at this level who will be a significant improvement on Perry and Harry because they are very good players.

“It is a long season and we know we need that cover and competition in the full-back positions. I would happy with team if the season kicked off tomorrow but we have to be ready to go to at least January.

“We want to create that real competition in every position because any player will tell you that having to compete for your place, pushes everyone on. It is always good to have that competitive edge in the squad.”
