Assistant Hoping For Better Luck With Injuries

5 June 2018

Crewe Alexandra’s assistant manager Kenny Lunt is hoping that the club get better luck with injuries in the coming season. Lunt says that losing key players such as James Jones and George Ray for a large chunk of the campaign didn’t help our cause as we struggled before the turn of the year.

Lunt feels that the players returning to fitness, coupled with a couple of key loan signings showed how good we could be in League Two.

Lunt told the club’s official website: “Last season, Accrington won the league because they are a good team with good players but they also had luck with injuries. They were able to keep the same 11/12/13 players relatively fit and that helps massively.

“They could play in most games and build some real momentum. It helped them have a really successful year and they deserved it.

“Now if they had someone like Billy Kee out for three or four months, then I’m not so sure they would have done as well as they did.

“We had two long-term injuries before the season even started with George and James and then we lost the likes of Ryan Wintle, Daggers, Ports and a few others at critical times as well.

“That is why we are working hard to improve the squad this summer and we have done but you also need a bit of luck as well.”
