David Artell says that the incredible success achieved by our former manager and Academy coach Steve Holland should be an inspiration to every aspiring coach at Crewe Alexandra.
Holland, who managed the club for 18 months after a distinguished career in the club’s renowned Academy, is now assisting Gareth Southgate with England. The pair enjoyed a deserved 2-1 win over Tunisia in the country’s opening game of the World Cup in Russia.
Artell told crewealex.net: “Steve is an inspiration to us all. I am sure that if England are as successful as we hope they can be that he would be a big part of that. I’m sure Gareth Southgate and the players would be complimentary about his contribution.
“Steve is one of those important cogs in the wheel that helps everything to function behind the scenes. He may be one of those people who goes about his job quietly and blends into the wall but you don’t half miss them when they are not there.
“I am not surprised that Chelsea have had a downturn since he left. Nothing is said about that, but I am not surprised because he was such an important member of staff to them. He won everything you possibly can there and handled some of the biggest egos in football.
David added: “Steve had a great apprenticeship here and we take great pride in seeing what he has achieved in the game. We wish him all the best.”
