Decision To Be Made Soon Over Full-Back Hunt

9 July 2018

David Artell says that he will continue to assess the credentials of experienced defender Nicky Hunt this week before he decides whether to offer the former Bolton, Bristol City and Preston North End man a contract.

The 34-year-old full-back is a free agent after his contract at Notts County came to an end in the summer and Artell has played him twice in our pre-season warm up games against Wigan Athletic behind closed doors and in the 1-0 win over Nantwich Town on Saturday.

Hunt has a wealth of experience making over 100 appearances for Wanderers when they were in the top flight and he has gone on to amass over 400 first team appearances during his career.

David explained to the club’s official website: “We have had Nicky training with us for a while and we will make a decision on him soon. He has played a part in the two games so far and he is certainly something different to what we have. He can head the ball in both boxes and as a full-back he can get round and spot danger.

“You don’t play in the Premier League if you don’t know what you are doing. He has vast experience and he would add more to our dressing room as well as height.

“He can potentially play both sides and he is a good pro.”
