David Artell has revealed to the club’s official website that a deal for the experienced defender Nicky Hunt is ‘not far off’.
The Alex boss is meeting with the board of directors later today and Hunt’s future will be on the agenda. The former Bolton Wanderers defender has been on an extended trial period with the club and has played in a number of pre-season matches as he tries to earn a deal.
Artell told the club’s official website: “I have a meeting with the chairman later today and Nicky will be on the agenda. I would say we are not far off agreeing something but it is not a done deal.
“We will be discussing other things, not just Nicky. There are a few bits and bobs to go through.
“Nicky has been with us for a while and he was under no obligation to stay. He understood the club very quickly and knows what it is about. He is based in the North West and at this stage of his career, he will be thinking more about his family life.
“He understands the culture of the club and he would be prepared to play anywhere for us. I am sure if he signs that he will be up for contention for a place like everyone else.”
