David Artell has told the club’s official website that he will invite a selection of trialists for parts of pre-season training. The Alex boss says he is open to signing a player if they can impress during a trial period and it is likely that some may been handed a chance in pre-season games.
The Crewe boss has also stated that our former strikers Nicky Maynard and AJ Leitch-Smith have been allowed to train with us over the summer to keep their fitness levels up. There is no suggestion that Crewe are looking to sign the pair.
Artell told crewealex.net: “I am open to trialists coming in and we have invited a few in to train with us. I am willing to do that. Why wouldn’t I? It provides us with a chance to see how they look and how they fit in with the dynamics with the rest of the squad.
“Nicky and AJ have asked to come in and train with us. They want to use the facilities to keep themselves ticking over and this club have always been open to doing that for our former players.”
