David Artell is aiming to finish the pre-season strongly with another two tough tests against Leek this evening and then Blackpool on Saturday. The Alex boss has been pleased with how the pre-season has so far materialised with no major injury concerns and he says the players have learnt a lot from facing different types of opposition.
Artell told the club’s official website: “We have played different opponents and had some good tests. We played Wigan early on and did really well. We then played Derby Couny who mulled us. They were outstanding. One of the best sides we have faced in a long time. They were a top side and it was a great experience for them to play such a good team on a fantastic pitch.
“We have trained with Liverpool’s Under-23s and that was another great experience. It was a really good day and they would have learnt from that.
“We have also faced a few non-league sides and will play Blackpool, who are league higher. That will be a good barometer of where we are. Hopefully we will can showcase more of what we want to do.”
