David Artell has told the club’s official website that he has been impressed with the level of fitness of his players.
The Crewe Alexandra boss and staff oversaw testing on the players return to full training last Thursday and he admits that he may have to rein some of them back in so they hit their peak on 4th August.
Artell told the club’s official website: “The players have come back and look very fit. The summer sessions have worked well and they are looking good. The objective over the pre-season is for them to be as fit as possible and injury free.
“It is an individual thing and they know their bodies better than anyone. Saying that we may have to rein one or two of them back in because they are so fit. It may sound a bit strange but they can be peaking a bit early and are ahead of schedule.
“We have put the sessions on to help and we can see the benefits. Now they have to get that match sharpness back and that touch back to where it was in February, March, April and May.”
