Artell: "I Sense The Players Want To Step It Up A Level"

10 July 2018

David Artell believes that his close knit squad have taken the momentum generated from the second half of the season into pre-season. The Alex boss says the proof will be when the serious stuff starts again against Morecambe on 4th August, but he has been impressed with the way the players have responded to the work so far.

Crewe Alexandra continue their pre-season preparations with a trip to Colwyn Bay this evening with the boss aiming to give most of his squad more minutes.

The boss told the club’s official website: “The players have worked hard and they have kept themselves fit over the summer.

“We ended the season well and managed to build some momentum. We will have to see if we can take that into the new season. The truth is you don’t know but the group have responded well to the work.

“It has been hotter than usual as well but there has been no disgruntlement in the ten days or so we have been back. I wouldn’t expect it from this group anyway.

“They tend to get on with things and know that it is all done for their benefit. I sense that they want to step it up from last year and that is a really positive sign.”
