Ray & Wintle Boost As They Make Successful Returns

9 January 2018

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell has revealed that Ryan Wintle and George Ray came through last night’s return against Hull City's U-23s  unscathed. Ray was given 37 minutes against the Tigers and Wintle even more in their first run outs from long-term injury.

Ray has not featured since fracturing his back away at Yeovil last season and Wintle since fracturing his tibia against Carlisle United back in September. Both players are expected to get even more game time against Runcorn in the Cheshire Senior Cup tomorrow night.

It is a welcome boost for Crewe Alexandra following the news that James Jones is unlikely to play again this season following his knee injury.

Artell told the club’s official website: “I spoke to both players before the game and I told them that is was great to have them back on a football pitch again.

“I wasn’t too bothered about their performance. It didn’t matter if they gave the ball away four or five times or made a mistake that led to a goal. It was just important to have them back out there.

“There was no pressure on them and they will get some more game time against Runcorn on Wednesday night.

“We will then look to give them a bit longer against Leeds United next Monday.”
