Manager Delighted By Ainley's Progress

4 January 2018

David Artell, the Crewe Alexandra boss, believes that there is still more to come from the in-form youngster Callum Ainley. The former Academy graduate has been in sparkling form recently, most notably when scoring a goal-of –the- season contender against Crawley Town just before Christmas.

Ainley has become a regular fixture in David Artell’s starting XI, with the talented 20-year-old making 33 appearances in all competitions. He has scored three goals with that stunner against Crawley coming on the back of goals against Rotherham in the FA Cup and in the 5-1 win over Chesterfield back in September.

The Crewe boss has been thrilled with Ainley’s development but he still believes there is even more potential in there.

“We all knew that Callum was a good player, “said Artell. “He needs to keep that going but we have been pleased with his development in the first team.

“He is beginning to really show his potential and that is about right for his age. Being at this Football Club, we probably put him in before he was totally ready but now he is ready.

“He has a lot of experience for someone of his age. He has played a lot of games compared to his peers of a similar age.

“Now it is up to him to crack on and become even better. He knows he has to contribute more goals and assists, like George (Cooper) has been able to do in intermittent spells. George is now coming good again.

“I think we have two of the best wingers in the league and although they are different in their style they can create things and get you off your seat. “
