Lunt: "Frustrating To Have Lost The Last Three"

30 January 2018

Kenny Lunt finds it hard to comprehend how we have suffered three successive defeats to Carlisle United, Wycombe Wanderers and Swindon Town. Crewe Alexandra conceded a late goal at Carlisle after creating the better chances in the first half and we led against both Wycombe and Swindon, but were left with nothing to show for our efforts.

Lunt, who conducted the press conference this morning because of David Artell’s attendance at St. George’s Park for a coaching course, said: “I cannot believe that we have come away from the last three games with no points. In many ways we should have had 9 points but it has been those fine margins and mistakes that have cost us.

“We just need that little bit of know-how to win games and it has been frustrating. We got ourselves into a great position on Saturday but we then stopped doing what had got us 3-1 up in the first place.

“We went into survival mode when we should have carried on playing our football and creating chances. If we had carried on doing that then I’m sure we would have been fine and it was those small margins that saw the game go away from us.

“It shouldn’t happen with 25 minutes left but it did. We were a bit unfortunate that we couldn’t make the substitutions we would have preferred to have made. We lost David Richards and then had to get a full-back on the pitch after Zooms was sent-off.

“We couldn’t make other changes that may have made us more solid and playing more football. “
