Jonah Contract Situation Has Not Been Discussed

10 January 2018

David Artell has told the club’s official website that James Jones’ contract situation has not been discussed following his latest injury set-back. The Scotland Under-21 midfielder suffered a medical knee ligament injury in training last week which is likely to keep him out for at least 10 weeks.

Jones, 21, has not featured this season after undergoing a hernia operation in the summer but he was subject to interest from a Championship club in the summer transfer window. Jones is yet to pen a new deal and Artell admits that his latest injury set-back has not altered things a great deal.

The boss told us: “We haven’t discussed Jonah’s contract situation. I’m sure there will be a discussion for the chairman and the board at a later date. If it does change then we would let people know and in football things change almost every day.

“Of course, it hasn’t helped him that he hasn’t played all season but we share his pain. We were looking forward to having him back because he is a good player and a great pro.

“The only thing he has to focus on is getting back and not to worry too much about the situation.”
