Artell: "Heavy Home Defeat Hurt"

10 January 2018

David Artell says that our 5-0 home defeat to Carlisle United back in September will be a motivational tool enough for his players. Crewe’s bright start to the season collapsed that afternoon as Keith Curle’s side clinically score five goals at a shocked Alexandra Stadium.

Artell says that the heavy defeat in front of our supporters hurt and that he will point to last season’s 2-0 win at Brunton Park as the perfect away performance under his reign.

David told crewealex.net: “To lose 5-0 at home hurt us. I don’t think after the start we had made to the season, we really saw that one coming but if you don’t play well and the opposition do then you are going to be in for a tough afternoon.

“It was a tough one to take and we have to use how we felt as a motivational tool. It will be a line when I talk to the players but only that. We have to focus on playing well ourselves.

“We played well there last season. We won 2-0 and the aim will be do that again.

The boss added: “Carlisle have changed shape and have good players. If they don’t play well against them they have the ability to beat you 5-0, as we know, so we have to be at it.”
