Artell: "We Don't Worry Ourselves With What Other Clubs Are Doing"

11 January 2018

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says he is not surprised that the clubs struggling at the wrong of League Two have strengthened their squads in the January window.

Artell is working hard to bring in new recruits of his own, but has reiterated that he will only bring in players who will improve his team.

The likes of Forest Green, Chesterfield and Yeovil have all moved for players since the window opened at the start of the month.

Artell told crewealex.net: “I am not surprised that clubs have bought players in. Forest Green and their owner have worked extremely hard to get into the Football League and they don’t want to go back to where they came from.

“They have spent some money on transfer fees and salaries this month and I envisaged that happening with a few clubs down there. That is up to them.

“We will worry about ourselves and do what is right for us. We want to recruit right. I think we got it right in January last year with Jordan (Bowery) and Callum (Cooke) coming in and I think we got the recruitment right in the summer with the players we were able to bring in.

“It is the same for everyone. We know what our market is and perhaps we have to work a bit smarter than some other clubs. I believe we have a squad capable of climbing the league but one or two players would certainly help us.”
