Boss Will Have To Assess Damage After Swindon Defeat

29 January 2018

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell will have to count the cost of Saturday’s 4-3 defeat to Swindon Town and assess his squad ahead of the trip to promotion hunting Notts County at the weekend. Kevin Nolan’s side held Premier League side Swansea City to a 1-1 draw in the FA Cup on Saturday and they will be aiming to keep their promotion aspirations on track against Crewe Alexandra.

The Railwaymen need the points for very different reasons following a third straight defeat at the County Ground.

Crewe had impressively and deservedly led 3-1 at one stage but again had nothing to show for our efforts as Swindon fought back to claim all three points thanks to Marc Richards’ 89th minute winner.

The Crewe manager lost his recalled goalkeeper Dave Richards with a calf injury with just over 20 minutes remaining and he had to once again turn to Ben Garratt.

Crewe also lost captain Michael Raynes with a late shoulder injury and had Zoumana Bakayogo sent off with 10 minutes left after he collected a second booking. With Perry Ng still to serve his final game of a four match suspension, Artell will have to assess who is fit for the weekend before possibly having to change three of his back five.
