Artell On Promotion Chasing Wycombe

19 January 2018

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell is looking forward to another tough test against Wycombe Wanderers this weekend.

The Railwaymen take on Gareth Ainsworth’s promotion hunting side at Gresty Road aiming to get back to winning ways after narrowly losing 1-0 at Carlisle United last week.

Crewe will actually aim to keep their crazy sequence of win one, lose one going against the Chairboys after going down late on at Brunton Park last weekend. If the sequence continues, Crewe will be a due another three points but Artell knows it will be another tough encounter.

The Alex lost 3-2 at Adams’ Park back in September after leading 2-1 going into the final few minutes of the game.

Ahead of the reverse fixture, Artell told us: “It was a right good game down there. We should have won the game after getting ourselves into a winning position but we somehow snatched defeat from the claws of victory that night.

“They are a strong side and have good players. You have to stand up to them and what they are effective at doing. We did that at our place last season and came out of it with a great three points.

“We have to be prepared to be like that again. If we can match them and are brave in possession then we have every chance.

David added: “We did that in the first half last week at Carlisle. We did well on the ball and when we do that we are a match for anyone in this league.”
