Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell was understandably frustrated with some major decisions going against his side in the 3-2 home defeat to Wycombe Wanderers, but he was left equally frustrated in the manner of the goals we conceded.
The referee missed a blatant handball by Adebayo Akinfenwa in the build-up to Wycombe’s second goal and he then chalked off what looked to be a winner from Eddie Nolan at the other end, before Wycombe’s dramatic late winner.
David told the club’s official website: “We cannot concede three goals at home and expect to win a football match. We cannot defend like we did and we can blame the referee as much as we like for the second goal and the handball but he wasn’t to blame for the third goal.
“We scored what we thought what the winner but it is disallowed and they go up the other end and we end up losing the game. We played well but had nothing to show for it and we have got to turn those performances into results and quickly.
“We have got to turn the corner and make sure that the goals we score as match winning ones or equalising goals. That is where we have got to get to.”
