Artell: "A Really Professional Performance"

1 January 2018

David Artell is pleased that his side have collected nine points from our five festive fixtures after first half goals from Chris Porter and Brad Walker secured a 2-0 win over Grimsby Town. Crewe thoroughly deserved to win their opening game of 2018 and the result puts us nine points clear of the relegation drop zone.

Following the 2-0 win at Gresty Road, Artell told us: “I thought we were confortable and to a man they were terrific. We deserved to be 2-0 up at half-time and we had chances to score some more but they have had one into the side netting in the second half in a howling gale, so I am delighted.

“It was all round 90 minutes of professionalism. From the opening minute to the 93 or whatever it was, they have worked their socks off and when they do that I would back my players up against anyone in this division.

“We played some great stuff in the first half. The first goal was a great passing move with Zooms getting in behind to give Chris a tap and the second goal is a terrific strike from Brad. He is a capable of that. We have seen it in training, he has got a terrific strike on him and you would want a chance like that to fall to him.

“He showed great technique and you fancy him from there. It was a great finish.

“I thought Callum and George were the best players on the pitch by a country mile. Ports and Chris kept the ball up there and that is before I mention the back four.

“It is three wins out of five games and that is a good return from the festive period. We have won one, lost one, won one, lost one, won one and that is an improvement from won one not win in five.

“Now we have to turn it into win, win, win and build some momentum. We have to build on that and the challenge again is to try and get back-to-back wins. “

The boss also revealed that loanee players Conor Grant and Sam Stubbs will be returning to their parent clubs when they loan deal expires.
