Ainley Went To Another Level On Saturday

30 January 2018

Callum Ainley is developing into a real game changer for the club according to assistant manager Kenny Lunt. After previously working with Ainley at youth level, Lunt knows the potential of the 20-year-old better than most and says that his added maturity at first-team level is beginning to shine through.

Ainley took his personal tally to five goals for the season with a well taken brace at Swindon Town and he was involved in creating our third goal for Ryan Wintle at the County Ground. His performance should have been a match winning one but it ultimately ended in disappointment thanks to Marc Richards’ late winner.

Lunt said: “Callum is becoming really consistent and showing everyone the ability we always knew he had. He is maturing as a footballer and can become a match winner for us.

“He started the season really well but on Saturday I think everyone who saw his performance would say he took it to another level. He was the best player on the pitch by a mile in the first half. He is getting in the box more and is adding goals and assists to his game.

“He faded a bit towards the end of the game and he knows he has to last games better but his physicality has improved. Once he can become the best player over 90 minutes and become the match winner then there is going to be a lot of interest in him because he is talented player.”
