Crewe Alexandra Under 23's recorded a battling 1-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers at Reaseheath thanks to a superb Oliver Finney second half strike.
The goal came five minutes after the break, a flowing Crewe move finished by Finney producing a fine strike that beat goalkeeper Jake Turner.
Earlier, Crewe had a goal disallowed in the first half for offside and Wanderers had a few good chances to take the lead - Connor Hall in particular missing a fabulous opportunity to open the scoring.
Finney pounced early in the second period - his shot going in via goalkeeper Turner - but Crewe did well to defend the Bolton threat as the half went on.
Chances came and went for the Alex to kill the game off, but in the end one was enough to record an impressive victory.
Crewe: Richards, T.Johnson, Sass-Davies (Abebisi, 45), Walker, Offord, Lundstram, Lynch (Harrison, 87), Finney, Hurst (Dale, 57), Kirk, Reilly
