Ray Needs Another 90 Minutes

12 February 2018

Defender George Ray is expected to get another 90 minutes under his belt before he will be considered for selection. Ray completed 120 minutes against Nantwich Town in the Cheshire Senior Cup last week and as a result was not included in the match day squad for the visit of Yeovil Town.

Ray, who has completely recovered from a fracture in his lower back, completed his first full game in ten and half months at the Weaver Stadium and manager David Artell will remain cautious with the former Wales U-21 International.

Artell told the club’s official website: “I spoke with George on Friday and we both agreed that he needed another 90 minutes. We were both on the same page.

“We completed 120 minutes at Nantwich on Tuesday and that was the first time he has got over 90 minutes in ten and half months. It would be unfair on him to throw him back in.

He added: “George wants to feel comfortable by getting through another 90 minutes and I understand that. I agree with him. It won’t make a major difference if it is five more days, a week or 10 days. We have to be cautious with him. “
