Chris Dagnall will also be visiting a specialist on Thursday to check over his knee. Dagnall has reported some slight swelling around his knee after joining in training at the tail end of last week.
The club are hopeful that the set-back is not too serious but have acted on the side of caution by sending the 31-year-old to see a consultant in London later this week.
The striker has not featured for the club since appearing in the 1-0 defeat away at Carlisle United back in mid-January.
The Crewe boss David Artell told us: “Daggers has been determined to get back into training and he did a little bit last week. He trained on the Thursday and the Friday and he was under consideration for the bench on Saturday, but he had a bit of swelling on his knee, so we are being cautious with him.
“He will see a consultant on Thursday and we are hoping he will be okay. He has a slight bit of swelling, so he will be checked over and see what the scan says. We are hopeful that it will be good news. “
