"We Have To Make Those Small Steps To Make Progress"

12 December 2018

David Artell has challenged his players to take the next step and take advantage of the opportunities that have been presenting themselves this season.

The Alex boss says his side have had ample opportunities to break into the top half of the table, but we cannot secure those back-to-back wins that could propel us forward.

The honest Alex boss said: “Every game is an opportunity for us and there have been times when we have failed to make that step. We could have gone into the top half if we had taken advantage of our game in hand against Mansfield but we lost.

“We could have leapfrogged over Oldham on Saturday and put ourselves in a strong position heading into a busy period of fixtures but again we failed to take advantage.

“It is about making that next step and I don’t mean going straight from our current position into a play-off position, it doesn’t happen like that. It has to be a gradual step. We need to get into the top half then aim for 10th, then say right let’s keep it going and the next target becomes seventh.

“You have to try and get on those type of runs and when you do the confidence grows and before you know it winning becomes a real habit. We haven’t been able to do that because we haven’t been able to get over that step of securing back-to-backs wins. That is the first challenge for us.”
