David Artell was a delighted manager after his Crewe Alexandra side dominated the league leaders this afternoon. The 2-1 win for the Alex was thoroughly deserved and in truth the scoreline flattered Danny Cowley’s side. Goals from Chris Porter and James Jones sealed the three points to end our run of three defeats and set us up nicely for a Saturday fixture against Stevenage.
David told the club’s official website: “We have dominated the league leaders for 90 minutes and the best team won. The only blemish on that performance was the late goal we conceded because our lads didn’t deserve that mark on it. They deserved the clean-sheet today.
“The three points were thoroughly deserved and the performance was matched by the result. We probably deserved to win by more. It was possibly the outstanding performance of the season but the main thing was the result. We haven’t been getting what we deserved of late, but we did today.
“Chris deserved his goal. He worked the line really well against their two centre-halves. Everyone of ours was better than there opposite number and when you get that you will win games of football.
“We were 2-0 up and deservedly so for our first half performance and we were comfortable. I don’t think they had too many chances and we demonstrated some real professionalism to see the game through.
“The second goal was superb. If I was a fan then I would pay my hard earned money to see that. It was great play between Kirk and Greeny in a tight pace and boom it was on a plate for a tap in for Jonah.
“They came out and whacked it a bit and tried to bully us in that second half but we handled it really well and when we do we get results like that.”
