Preview: Crewe Face Lengthy Exeter Contest

15 December 2018

Crewe Alexandra make the lengthy trip to Devon to take on Exeter City looking to bounce back from the disappointing defeat to Oldham last weekend.

Despite only winning one & drawing two of ten away games on the road this season, many of the performances have warranted more & boss Dave Artell will be looking to take advantage of the Grecians current poor form.

City haven't won in their last eight League Two games, losing four & drawing four. Their last win came at St James Park against Swindon in mid-October, though they did beat Bristol Rovers in the Checkatrade Trophy last month.

Date: Saturday 15 December 2018

Competition: Sky Bet League Two

Venue: St James Park

Previous Meeting At Host Club: Exeter 3-0 Crewe (September 2017)

Referee: Craig Hicks (P23, Y77, R5)

Crewe: Paul Green is almost close to a return after four-months on the sidelines, but the game comes to early for him.

Otherwise, it's a clean bill of health for Dave Artell's squad with decisions to be made over team selection following last week's disappointing performance & 2-0 defeat to Oldham.

The last away game at Crawley in November did result in a 3-0 defeat for the Alex, though many are still scratching their heads over how one of the best performances of the season ended that way.

A similar type of performance against the Grecians & the Alex shouldn't be too far away.

Exeter: Hiram Boateng continues to be missing after long-term injury, but manager Matty Taylor remains cagey over availability of his other players.

As mentioned, Exeter haven't won a league game since mid-October & have lost their last three in all competitons.

But they do have a good record at SJP against the Alex, winning 4-0 & 3-0 in both of Dave Artell's visits as Crewe manager.
