Paul Green is hoping to be fit to play some part for the club’s Under-23s against Nottingham Forest next week. The experienced midfielder, 35, is ahead of schedule as he aims to fully return from his knee injury and make himself available for first-team selection in the New Year.
Green suffered the injury in late August at Carlisle United and his return would be a welcome boost to David Artell ahead of the second half of the campaign.
Green told the club’s official website: “Last week I had the ball back out which was good and now I’ve been able to join in with the training. It is non-contact at the minute but I hope to be involved in the contact side of it before too long.
“If I can come through that then I hope to be play some part for the Under-23s next week. That is the aim and it is all exciting after been out for as long as I have been.
“When I went to the specialist he knew that I had put the hard work in and said that I have come on and leaps and bounds. I am ahead of schedule but I want to make sure I am right because I don’t want to get out there and then suffer a set-back.
“It is tough getting back but I have experienced a serious injury and I know that it is only hard work that will get you back out there.”
