David Artell believes that he is taking a far stronger Crewe Alexandra squad to Forest Green for only our second ever visit to the New Lawn stadium.
Artell described last season’s 3-2 defeat in the closing stages as one of the lowest points of his managerial career. Crewe had led 2-1 heading into the last seven minutes - but ended up losing the game thanks to Alex Lacovitti’s stoppage time winner from a corner. That result back in November 2017 left the Railwaymen in real danger of entering the bottom two heading into December.
David told the club’s official website: “Last season’s game at Forest Green was one of the lowest points for me. We had led 2-1 going into the final ten minutes but threw it away.
“You could sense it happening when they forced that late corner. We were going through a phase of conceding late goals and I remember thinking we will lose this. How have we lost this game?
“I think we are far better equipped now than we were at that stage last season. We have better players and a better squad.
“What we need to do is score more goals and that is what we will be working on all week. Practice makes permanent.”
