Artell: "Same Old Story From Us"

Boss fed up with unlucky losers tag after going down 1-0 at St. James' Park

David Artell says that his Crewe Alexandra side deserved at least a point this afternoon but we were once again left to rue some missed chances. The Alex slipped to a 1-0 defeat thanks to Lee Martin’s wonder strike in the first half and we couldn’t take advantage of some good chances of our own with Shaun Miller smacking the crossbar with just five minutes remaining.

Following the 1-0 defeat at St. James’ Park, the Alex boss told us: “It is the same old story from us. We deserved something from the game, especially after the way we played in the second half and the chances we had.

“Callum has had two good chances, Shaun has missed an open goal and we have had plenty of balls flashing across their box but we haven’t taken them again.

“It has to change and we have to do better, I am fed up of saying the same thing about how we deserved something and getting nothing. There is nothing in the game but we have lost it.

“It is a terrific strike from Martin. He is a good player and it was a moment of individual brilliance for the goal. It is another wonder goal against us, like the Oldham game, and they are preventable as well.

“I didn’t think there was too much between the two sides, and I think 1-1 would have been a fair result . With the chances we had in the second half, it could have been three points but we are stood here with none.

He added: “It was a better performance. Last week against Oldham was not acceptable but this one wasn’t like that. They were committed, good at times and again it was about taking our chances. The penny has to drop.”
