I Want To Bring Success To This Club Not Just Survive

6 December 2018

David Artell will celebrate his 100th game in charge of Crewe Alexandra on Saturday but the Alex boss says he is more interested in success for the club than personal milestones. So much so that Artell didn’t even know that he set to mark a substantial achievement in modern day football.

Ahead of his century of games against Oldham this weekend, Artell told the club’s official website:  “I want to be a successful manager at this club because they deserve it. I don’t want to just be a manager who did so many games or was here for so many years, I want to be remembered for bringing some success to Crewe and to the town.

“I don’t want that for me. I want it for the club because it has gone through the wringer in the modern game. Those little town clubs have struggled financially but I like being the underdog and proving people wrong.

“When they dismiss us then that is when they get the best out of me. It is about fighting back when your back is against the wall and not being a wallflower.”
