Richards Looks Forward To Fleetwood Test

14 August 2018

Goalkeeper David Richards says the Crewe Alexandra dressing room will be aiming to bounce back from Saturday’s narrow loss at Newport County with victory against League One opposition.

The Welsh stopper believes that a positive result against Joey Barton’s Fleetwood side in the Carabao Cup would prove to be just the tonic after we suffered our first defeat of the new season in South Wales.

Ahead of tonight’s cup clash, Richards told the club’s official website: “We have to learn from the Newport game. We just weren’t at it like we were against Morecambe. There are always highs and lows in football but the beauty of it is that there is another game just around the corner.

“The Fleetwood game has come around quickly for us. It should be a cracking game. We are at home and they are a league above us. It is always good to test yourself against players who are playing higher than you are.

“They are a good side with a new manager, so they will be looking to do well. They like to play football, so it should suit us a bit more than what Newport did.

“As a footballer you just want to win as many games as you can, and it doesn’t matter if it is in the league, in the cups or at Under-23 level. We have all been brought up with the mind-set to win game and that is how we will go about it.”
