Crewe Alexandra's new loan signing Kevin O’Connor is hoping he has done enough in training this week to show that he is ready to make his club debut against Macclesfield Town this weekend.

O’Connor, 23, has signed on loan from Championship club Preston North End until early January and he says he is ready and available if manager David Artell decides to name the left-back in his starting XI for tomorrow’s eagerly anticipated derby clash.

Ahead of this weekend’s home game with the Silkmen, Kevin told the club’s official website: “I have settled in really quickly. It is a really good dressing room and all the lads and staff have made me feel really welcome.

“I have come here to play games and to help the lads as much as I can. First and foremost I am a defender and I want to help us keep clean-sheets but I also like to get forward and create things. I think that is part and parcel of being a full-back in the modern game.

“I will just get my head down and work as I can. I think I’ve done that in training this week and if the gaffer thinks I am ready to go in then that would be great.

“It would be great to make my debut in front of the home fans in a local derby. I am ready, 100% - but the final decision is down to the gaffer. I’ll just have to wait and see but I cannot wait to get going.”
