Missing Trio Unlikely To Be Risked For Cup Encounter

14 August 2018

Crewe Alexandra are unlikely to risk any of their injured trio against Fleetwood Town this evening, but David Artell has hinted that he may give fresh opportunities to one or two following the 1-0 defeat to Newport at the weekend.

Encouragingly, Shaun Miller resumed training yesterday after missing the opening two games of the season with a slight knee problem. George Ray (bruised ribs) and Chris Porter (groin) are unlikely to be risked tonight for our Carabao Cup clash.

David told the club’s official website: “Shaun is back in training, so that is good. We will see how he gets on after he missed the last few weeks.

“George’s ribs, hip and back is now yellow, so that is a good sign. It means the bruising is coming out, so he shouldn’t be too far off.

“Chris tweaked his groin ahead of the Newport game, so he didn’t travel but he shouldn’t be too long out either.

“There may be one or two who deserve a chance this evening and if they do get a chance then they will have to do well enough to keep the shirt.

“I’ve said it all along that if you don’t perform then you leave yourself wide open.”
