Lunt Targets Derby Points To Kick Start Us Again

31 August 2018

Kenny Lunt says that there will be an extra edge to Saturday’s game against Macclesfield Town, but he has stressed that Crewe Alexandra will be treating the ‘Cheshire Derby’ like any other game.

Macclesfield will be coming to Crewe looking to record their first league win of the season, but Lunt admits that the Railwaymen needed three home points after suffering back-to-back defeats on the road.

Ahead of the weekend encounter at Gresty Road, Lunt told crewealex.net: “We know Macclesfield and have watched them. We went to watch them at Walsall in the Carabao Cup and they had a terrific result there on penalties.

“We know their strengths and their weakness and we will look to take advantage of that. We are at home and it is important we get on the front foot and do everything we can to get the three points.

“I have been here for 30 odd years, on and off and I am not sure the fans see it as a derby in the same way they do as Port Vale or Stoke, but Macclesfield are close and it is a derby.

“It doesn’t make much difference to me, the staff or the players. We go out to win every game, regardless of who we play and where. We want to win and make sure we get more points on the board because we should have more than we have.

“With the exception of the Colchester game when that shouldn’t have happened. We have been in every game this season and if we can perform like we can then we will win the game.”
