"Important We Don't Get Mixed Up In The Occasion"

30 August 2018

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell has reiterated that it is important that his players do not get caught up in a derby occasion this weekend.

Our local neighbours Macclesfield travel to Gresty Road for this season’s first Cheshire derby and Artell says that we have to keep our cool and allow our quality to show. Macclesfield are still looking for their first league win of the season after winning promotion back into the EFL last season.

Ahead of this weekend’s fixture, Artell told crewealex.net: “There is a bit of an edge on the game because it is a derby game, but at the same time it is another game and a chance to get three points.

“We have to make sure that we play our normal game and not get carried away by the occasion. That is one of the messages I will be telling the players prior to kick-off.

“If we can play our normal game and let our quality show then we will be fine. I’ve said that if we can play like we did against Morecambe, MK Dons and Fleetwood then we will be absolutely fine this season. We would certainly win more games than we would lose because that level of performance would take care of the result.

“They have set the standard at home and now we just have to start scoring some goals again. That’s the bottom line. Goals change games and we need some going in our favour.”
