Crewe Alexandra have completed the eleventh hour signing of defender Corey Whelan on loan from Liverpool.
The 20-year-old, who is equally comfortable at right-back or centre-half, has joined on a deal until January 7 2019.
Whelan is not available for tomorrow's clash with Macclesfield Town or for Tuesday's Checkatrade Trophy trip to Tranmere Rovers due to internation duty.
He started out life in the Crewe Alexandra academy before being signed by the Reds in 2007 aged nine.
Captain of the Liverpool Under 21 side for 2017/18, he is also a regular internationally for the Republic of Ireland Under 21s.
Whelan also tasted his first spout of senior football with a six-month loan at Yeovil Town last season. He played 11 games for the Glovers in the second half of 2017/18, scoring once in a 3-2 Checkatrade Trophy victory over Fleetwood Town.
Everyone at Crewe Alexandra would like to welcome Corey back to the Club after 11 years away.
