Despite promising youngster Harry Pickering and the experienced Paul Green picking up untimely injuries, David Artell still believes that his squad is in ‘much better shape’ than this time last year.
The Crewe Alexandra boss has begun to stamp his own authority on the team with the likes of Green, Shaun Miller, Alex Nicholls and Nicky Hunt all signing in the summer.
Artell told crewealex.net: “Despite losing Harry and Paul to injury, I still think we are in better shape than we were at this stage last season.
“There is more depth to the squad and other than one or two positions; we can cope with better with the injuries.
“I am not sure where we were at this stage last season. I’m told where we are in the table but don’t look at it at this stage. It is still very early.
“I think we are better equipped last season and that allows us to cope but we are still looking at things in the loan market.”
