Artell: "Too Many Lads Had An Off Day"

12 August 2018

Crewe Manager Dave Artell cut a frustrated figure post match in the drizzling rain in South Wales.

His side fell to a 1-0 defeat at Newport County after seeing captain for the day Paul Green miss a second half penalty kick.

The boss said: “Too many lads had an off day today.

“Don’t get me wrong, we should’ve still got something out of the game still – that’s obvious when you miss a penalty.

“There was too many that dipped below their standards & my standards.

“I don’t think Newport particularly hurt us that much. For large parts we were comfortable, but at the same time, I’m sure Mike Flynn will say they were comfortable.

“Don’t get me wrong, last 20 minutes we’ve had a right good go & if somebody was going to score it was going to be us, but the irony is that we looked a bit toothless & we’ve got to be a bit better all over the park.

“Things have got to improve."
