Artell: "Without Playing Well, We Should Have Still Got Something"

13 August 2018

David Artell says that having watched the DVD back of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Newport County has not altered his opinion too much. The Crewe boss claimed after our first defeat of the new season that we had too many players having an off day at Rodney Parade and he was disappointed with our decision making in possession.

The Crewe Alexandra manager is now looking for a positive reaction against Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night.

David told us: “Having watched the game back, it is what we thought. We didn’t do enough to stop them often enough and we didn’t pass the ball about like we can.

“We didn’t create too much and like I said after the game, there were too many of them having an off day.

“Without playing well, we could and should have still picked up a point. It is a tough place to go, Newport. I think they lost four games there all season and they defeated Leeds in and held Tottenham to a draw in the FA Cup.

“There will be plenty of teams coming away from there with nothing this season but we know we have got to play better than we did on Saturday, if we are to have a successful season. We fell short on Saturday but the games come thick and fast at this stage of the season and we have Fleetwood, who are a league higher coming to our ground.”
