"There Is A Nice Blend In The Squad Now"

23 April 2018

David Artell has told the club’s official website that adding more experienced players to his squad have helped us reach the safety mark of 50 points.

The Crewe Alexandra boss added the vastly experienced midfielder Paul Green and striker Shaun Miller to his squad in January and with the likes of Chris Porter and Chris Dagnall returning from injury, they have clearly provided some guidance to the younger players at the club.

A 1-0 win over Morecambe on Saturday saw Crewe reach the 50-point milestone and the boss now wants to end the season with three wins on the bounce.

David told crewealex.net: “The players have been doing their jobs. That is what we focussed on. We wanted them to concentrate on their own performance and making sure they had the better of their direct opponent. If you have the majority of them doing that then you usually win the game.

“They all know their jobs and when they apply themselves then we are a match for anyone. I think the older players have helped with that. They know the importance of churning out a performance after performance and becoming consistent.

“I think the players we were able to bring in in the window and the ones we have had coming back from injury have helped considerably with that. They help the younger ones, so when say a Harry Pickering is having a tough period in the game, there is a Paul Green there to help him see it through.

The boss added: “I think there is a nice blend now. The young ones are our future but they need some older ones around them.”
