Boss Won't Allow Results To Disguise Performance

24 April 2018

David Artell says that he will continue to construct an ‘environment of belief’ at Crewe Alexandra. The boss is determined to change the mindset and winning mentality of his players to make sure we have a more successful season next time around.

Crewe have certainly improved in the second half of the season and reached the safety mark of 50 points with a 1-0 win over Morecambe at the weekend.

Artell told the club’s official website: “We will continue to work on the environment here and developing that winning mentality. Having that belief is very important going forward and we have worked hard on that.

“We aim to win every game but it is important not to get to carried away with results. They can sometimes disguise the performance.

“We had a real go at Luton, who have been promoted. For the last half an hour or so, they were playing counter-attacking football because we were camped in their half of the pitch.

“There won’t be many teams who have gone to Luton and tried to take the game to them. On another day, we could well have got something from the game, so there were some real positives to take from it.

“I thought we were a bit unlucky at Luton and I know the fans appreciated the players effort.

“Now there were more negatives, performance wise against Morecambe, but we kept a clean-sheet and won the game.

“Therefore you have to judge each performance on its merits. “
