David Artell has revealed to the club’s official website that he has met Charlie Kirk’s representative for lunch and that talks over a new contract for the talented youngster have progressed positively.
Artell is hoping to tie up Kirk and fellow Academy graduates, James Jones and Callum Ainley on new deals this summer. If those players do not sign new contracts then Crewe will be entitled to compensation or a fee decided by tribunal.
The Crewe boss told us: “I have met Charlie’s agent for lunch and we had constructive and encouraging talks. They are moving along nicely and hopefully when we meet again next week, we can get round to finalising something there.
“The goal posts have moved more times than the groundsman moves them with Callum but we will continue to fight our corner with him. I remain confident that he wants to stay with us.
“It is decision time for all three of them because we need to know what they are doing as we move forward. They are aware of the time scale and they know we want them to stay.”
