David Artell has told the club’s official website that he will tap into the football knowledge of his new Senior Recruitment Analyst once a replacement is found for the departed Gary Jenkins.

The Alex boss is taking a more hands on approach to recruitment and contract negotiations going forward.

Artell is in the midst of contract talks with a number of his players as they enter the last few months of their current deals. The Crewe boss is aiming to convince them that their development and first-team opportunities are best suited to remaining at Gresty Road.

The Crewe boss told the club’s official website:  “Talks are on-going and we are always planning forward.

“We want someone to come in with their ear to their ground on players. They will know their stuff and I will trust their opinions on players. It is not an exact science, recruitment. It is difficult and you have to know your football.

“The best scouts are the ones with initiative and who understand the tactical side of things and where players can fit into systems. It is an important role because a manager has to trust their opinion and be guided by them."
