We Are Still Creating Good Chances

20 September 2017

David Artell believes his Crewe Alexandra side are still creating chances despite drawing another blank against league leaders Exeter City on Saturday. Crewe suffered their second successive league defeat when going down 3-0 at St. James’ Park and Artell says he is not overly concerned that we haven’t scored a goal in our last two games.

The boss told the club’s official website: “I still think we are creating chances. We created enough chances against Cambridge to have certainly got something and we had two great chances in the early exchanges at Exeter.

“George Cooper missed a shot from about seven yards out and Callum Ainley elected to pass instead of shoot when he was eight yards out. We managed to slide Daggers in in the second half but he dragged his shot wide. Their lad did the same thing and it went straight across our box for the winger to tap-in.

“I am a believer in that you make your own luck but things certainly fell to Exeter for those two opening goals. We could have been 2-0 up but found ourselves 2-0 down at half-time.

“We were better against Exeter as we were not one dimensional. We tried to break them down using different methods.

“It is not as if we are not creating enough, we just haven’t taken our chances in the last two games. Cambridge and Exeter took theirs. We will be sticking them away again soon. There are plenty of games coming up in a short space of time, to get us the results we need.”
