Alex Morris' Under 23 side let a half-time lead slip to fall to a 3-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town at their John Smith's Stadium.
Lewis Reilly had put the Alex in front early on, but a brace from defender Danny Kane put the Terriers in front before Dom Tear completed the scoring.
Reilly put Crewe ahead on the ten minute mark, Charlie Kirk's good work and unselfish pass allowing the young striker to tap into the net.
The Alex defended stoutly for the remainder of the half to keep the hosts at bay, but the resistance was broken seven minutes into the second period, centre back Kane scrambling the ball home as Crewe failed to clear a corner kick.
Kane pounced to notch his second and put Town ahead on the 72 minute mark, playing a one-two before firing an unstoppable shot into the corner.
The home side now firmly in the driving seat, they completed the scoring for 3-1 on 79 minutes, Matty Daly on the high press winning the ball and squaring for Tear to tap home.
