Lunt: "We Will Stick With Our Young Players"

11 September 2017

Kenny Lunt says the club will continue to show patience with young forward Charlie Kirk and our other young talent. Lunt is a big fan of Kirk after working closely with him in the Academy and he believes that the Winsford-born youngster has the attributes needed for him to break into the first team on a regular basis in the future.

Kirk and fellow subs Jordan Bowery and Callum Ainley all made an impact when coming in the 5-1 win over Chesterfield on Saturday and Lunt says that is what he and David Artell are looking for.

Kenny told crewealex.net: “I thought all three subs did well when they came on and that is the impact we want from them. It is about the group and we will need all of them at different stages of the season.

“We will stick with someone like Charlie because the young players all develop and mature at different rates.

“It was the same with George Cooper a couple of seasons ago. People were not happy with him for this and that but he developed that confidence and is now having a big influence on the games.

“He would probably say he didn’t have one of his better games on Saturday but we has still created two goals and scored himself. We will take that every week off of him!

“If Charlie can reproduce what we showed on Saturday over longer periods then we will be on his way again.”
