Lunt: "A Chance To Showcase Themselves"

13 September 2017

Kenny Lunt believes that Crewe Alexandra have the perfect opportunity to bounce back from our home defeat to Cambridge United by picking up a positive result at table topping Exeter City.

The club’s assistant manager remembers our 4-0 defeat at St. James’ Park last season and he is looking for a more even affair this weekend. In one of Daid Artell's first games in charge, substitute Charlie Kirk was sent-off on a forgettable trip to Exeter, but Lunt says that despite last night’s defeat to the U’s, we will still go there with great confidence.

Kenny told the club’s official web-site: “I didn’t think it was a 4-0 game last year. We had Charlie sent-off and we had George Ray out injured, so we had Nuge (Ben Nugent) and Jon Guthrie at centre-half with Jon having to play on the unfamiliar right side. It wasn’t ideal.

“Some of the key decisions went against us as well on the day. Jordan (Bowery) had a goal disallowed for push, but then their player did exactly the same at the other end, and it was given. It was one of those days.

“Saturday is another chance for us. There is no reason why we cannot go to Exeter, play our football and get a positive result. It is a chance to showcase their talent against the club that is currently top of the league.

Lunt: “We are still confident and if we can get the three points then that would put us back up there.”
