Boss Pleased With Reaction Of Trio

29 September 2017

David Artell has told the club’s official website that he was especially delighted with the reaction of three of his players against Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night. Artell recalled striker Jordan Bowery to his starting line-up against the Chairboys and he was pleased with the reaction of Michael Raynes and Brad Walker after a tough time of late.

Despite the 3-2 defeat, the Crewe boss was pleased with the performance at Adams Park and he wants a similar reaction at Coventry this weekend.

Artell told crewealex.net: “I said to Michael before the game at Wycombe, this one is right up your street. He showed his strengths and created the opening goal with a great far post header.

“He handled Akinfenwa fairly well and we defended reasonably well. Saying that we conceded three goals and lost the game, but Michael responded well after what happened against Carlisle. That is his character.

“Brad is good player and we have had to use his utility this season. Needs must with the injuries we have had. He has played centre-half, on the right side of the three, at right-back and in a couple of positions in midfield.

“I’m sure he would like to nail down a regular position but we have had to use him to our advantage. He was good on Tuesday in that position.

He added: “We have been after more from Jordan and we got that. He ran his socks off on Tuesday night and we were pleased with his response.”
