Boss Looking For Clinical Edge

22 September 2017

David Artell believes that if his Crewe Alexandra side continue to play the right way then we will start to convert our chances again. The Alex boss has been surprised that we haven’t scored in our last two games, but he stresses that his team have continued to carve out good opportunities.

The Alex dominated the second period against Cambridge United and had two really good chances to take the lead at Exeter last weekend before the current league leaders went up the other end to score the opening goal in the 7th minute.

Artell is looking for more clinical results in both boxes.

The boss told us: “That is where the improvement is. We need to be more clinical in both boxes. If we can do that then we were score goals and not concede. We haven’t been as clinical as I would have liked in the last two games.

“Players do not miss chances on purpose nor do they set out to make a mistake at the back that leads to a goal.

“We were really aggressive in our play against Cambridge but just lacked that little bit of quality in the final third, but when you are on the front foot and putting the opposition under pressure then you usually get the breaks. Fergie time wasn’t luck or the penalties they got. They got them because they spent most of their time in the opposition box.

He added: “Things will change and you will get the rub of the green. Against Exeter we could have been two up and they score with their first attack, so that was three things that went against us. On a different day if we are more clinical, we are 2-0 up and it is a different game. “
